WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation on Monday to improve oversight of ocean shipping, which supporters say will help curb inflation and ease export backlogs. The Ocean Shipping Reform Act was sponsored by South Dakota Senator John Thune and Congressman Dusty Johnson.

The bill passed 369-42 and will head to the White House for President Joe Biden’s signature. Biden said in a statement he looked forward to signing it into law.

The U.S. House Agriculture Committee on May 17 unanimously passed a bipartisan bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) that would make improvements to the pricing of cattle in America.

“Ranchers need more shackle space,” Rep. Johnson said. “The market is too concentrated and South Dakota cattle producers deserve more options on where to sell their product.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) questioning its lack of action on the ongoing baby formula shortage. South Dakota has an out-of-stock rate of over 50%. FDA became aware of contamination at Abbott Nutrition as early as September 2021 and found an increased level of bacteria in January 2022.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), alongside Reps. Greg Murphy (R-NC) and Dusty Johnson (R-SD), introduced the Stop Reckless Student Loan Actions Act, would end President Biden’s un-targeted suspension of repayments on qualifying federal student loans. The bill would still allow the president to temporarily suspend repayment for low- and middle-income borrowers in future national emergencies and would prohibit the president from cancelling outstanding federal student loan obligations due to a national emergency.

WASHINGTON– U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) introduced the Traveler’s Gun Rights Act. This bill would update federal law to account for various residency-related issues facing full-time Recreational Vehicle (RV) travelers, individuals with multiple physical residences, active-duty military personnel, and military spouses. Companion legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.).

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rep. Johnson was in Rapid City Monday afternoon, as part of a trip to West River.

The congressman kicked off his trip by visiting some of the local organizations focused on helping residents with mental health difficulties. He started at the Crisis Care Center, which is currently waiting for construction to finish on a new building.

But that's if you don't know South Dakota agriculture.

"Sixty percent of South Dakota soybeans are exported," U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., told Forum News Service on Tuesday, March 29.

Dusty Johnson, the at-large Republican congressman from South Dakota, is finding some success despite being a member of the House minority party in only his third year in Congress.

Johnson is quick with a joke and laughs easily – someone his colleagues across the aisle call a “pleasant guy.” At the same time, he's chalked up a win on one piece of significant piece of legislation and could claim victory on another in coming weeks.
