The United States Postal Service (USPS) is not meeting the needs of South Dakotans. I hear almost every day about a lost package, delayed mail resulting in late fees, medication delays, and the questionable routing of mail. USPS delivery times continue to get worse, and it’s having a real impact on individuals and businesses. The data shows USPS service performance data has trended downward in every measurable category for every type of postage for the last four years.
BIG Update
My bill to protect the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre was signed into law. I’m thankful for the work of tribal leaders from the Oglala Sioux Tribe and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe to preserve this land for generations to come and for the leadership of Senators Rounds and Thune who helped get this bill across the finish line.
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) congratulated Congressional App Challenge winner Nana Kwame Dwomoh from Brookings, South Dakota. Nana Kwame coded an app called “WorkWellness.”
Washington, D.C. – Today, two provisions led by U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) in the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) were signed into law by President Trump. The provisions would strengthen America’s deterrence against China and prohibit men from competing in women’s sports at military academies.
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) released the following statement after voting again to fund the government and end the longest government shutdown in American history:
We are now 31 days into this government shutdown, and Americans are really starting to see the scary impacts of what will soon be the longest government shutdown in American history. I voted back in September to prevent all of this. It was a vote to keep the government open and to keep serving people.
Here are some of the scariest impacts of this senseless shutdown:
BIG Update
Many government services are halted during a government shutdown. One of which was the local Farm Service Administration (FSA) offices which provide vital services to producers. I’ve heard from many producers across South Dakota that they need these offices to open so they can cash their checks from commodity sales. Without these funds, many farmers are put in a tough spot. I expressed my concerns to Secretary Brooke Rollins, and she assured me USDA would fix the problem.
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) and Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA) introduced the Shutdown Fairness Act to pay federal employees and armed services members who are required to work during government shutdowns.
BIG Update
Another week of the government shutdown has come and gone. This shutdown should never have happened and it’s even more ridiculous every day it continues. I voted to keep the government open a month ago, and yet some in the Senate are preventing federal employees from being paid and cutting off important services for the American people.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) announced that his office is seeking internship applicants for the spring in his Washington, D.C., Rapid City, Aberdeen, and Sioux Falls offices.
