Every year, congress passes appropriation bills setting the spending levels for each federal agency. With the federal fiscal year starting Oct. 1, the deadline is fast approaching to pass those bills and avoid a government shutdown.
I’m revamping the Weekly Column to give you a greater look at what’s happening in Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) was honored for winning the Democracy Award for outstanding Constituent Service by the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF).
My experience as an intern in Congressman Johnson’s district office has been full of new experiences, learning curves, and limitless opportunities. I have seen firsthand the impact Congressman Johnson and his staff have on everyday South Dakotans and all they do to lend a helping hand.
August has been a busy month! Every year, Congress has an extended “district work period.” It’s a time where members of Congress stop traveling back and forth to Washington and spend August in their home state to attend events or much-needed meetings, visit with constituents at fairs, sit down with business owners and community leaders, and host town halls.
