Talent and Transit
BIG Update
The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to showcase South Dakota’s student talent in the nation’s Capitol building. The skill and creativity shown in the winning art pieces are always impressive. Each year, my office, along with the South Dakota Art Council, select a piece of art to hang in the U.S. Capitol and one to hang in my congressional office in D.C. It was great to meet with this year’s winner, Cadence Micucci of Tea, as she was in town to see her work displayed proudly representing South Dakota.
BIG Idea
Transportation infrastructure keeps us connected and the economy moving. I recently joined Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken to highlight the importance of transit systems and the benefits Sioux Falls and South Dakota will see from the BUILD America 250 Act. I was able to ride along with Jared, who uses Sioux Area Metro services to get to and from work. He relies on a strong and reliable public transportation service to participate in the workforce and Sioux Falls does it better than most. The BUILD America 250 Act, which I supported when it passed committee, invests in more than just our roads and bridges. Over the next five years, $103.3 billion will support public transit and it was great to highlight these investments in South Dakota.
BIG News
This week marks four years since the Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling. States across the country, including South Dakota, have acted to protect the sanctity of life since this landmark ruling. I’ve been a proud protector of life during my time in Congress. There is still work to be done on this issue, but this is a moment to reflect on the vulnerable lives protected because of this action.
