Johnson: Farmers and Ranchers Soon Eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program

April 21, 2020

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) today applauded a congressional deal that will refill funds for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and expand eligibility for farmers and ranchers to apply for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program (EIDL). Agricultural businesses with less than 500 employees will be eligible for the EIDL program.

On April 9, 2020, Johnson, along with Agriculture Ranking Member Conaway, urged the Small Business Administration to provide clarity for producers applying for the PPP program and expand eligibility for the EIDL program to agriculture.

"Our producers have been hit hard," said Johnson. "Farmers and ranchers shouldn't be left out of crucial programs that will help keep their business afloat during unprecedented COVID-19 economic downturn. The EIDL program adds another tool to the toolbox for those farmers struggling to make ends meet. I'll continue to fight to ensure our producers are on a level playing field with other industries."
