Johnson Announces Custer County Sheriff as State of the Union Guest
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) announced that Custer County Sheriff Marty Mechaley will join him for President Trump’s State of the Union address.
“Crime rates are down across America thanks to a secure border and the reversal of soft-on-crime policies. The men and women in blue can now do their jobs more effectively to keep our communities safe,” said Johnson. “I’m glad Sheriff Mechaley can join me to hear how the President has partnered with our law enforcement communities to make America safe again. Law and order has returned to America.”
“I am greatly honored and deeply appreciative to have been invited by Representative Dusty Johnson to attend the State of the Union,” said Sheriff Mechaley. “I hope to hear some of the success stories and the work that has gone into securing our border, especially knowing how crucial it is for reducing the flow of illegal narcotics into our country. Visiting Washington, D.C. has only strengthened my pride in being an American.”
Sheriff Marty Mechaley has been in law enforcement since 1993 as the small-town chief of Bison, South Dakota and later as a detective in Aberdeen. He was appointed Custer County Sheriff in 2017, then elected in 2018, and has served in that role since. Much of Sheriff Mechaley’s work in Custer County has involved methamphetamine issues and Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints (FLDS)-related matters. He and his wife have helped ten members leave the cult at the Pringle compound several miles from Pringle, South Dakota.
