Over the last week, many schools across South Dakota resumed classes – both in-person and online. This marks the beginning of a sense of normalcy many of our kids are experiencing for the first time in several months.
Although there's nothing normal about wearing masks or attending classes virtually, this is our reality for the time being and thankfully our students and teachers are making the best of it. Our kids are just thankful to see their friends and teachers.
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) and U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) urged U.S. Department of Treasury Secretary Mnuchin to include personal protective equipment (PPE) as a deductible classroom expense under the Educator Expense Deduction. Currently, educators can deduct up to $250 of supplementary classroom materials and equipment.
South Dakota is home to outstanding universities and technical colleges that are leading the country in science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) fields that so many students are pursuing. These students have an opportunity to receive a first-class education right here in South Dakota.

The CAC accepts computer programs (or apps) written in any programming language, for any platform (desktop/PC, web, mobile, raspberry Pi, etc.).

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) announced Kenzee Schafer, from Wessington Springs, as the winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition for South Dakota. Schafer won for her oil and acrylic painting, "Pride." Schafer is a junior at Wessington Springs High School, taught by art teacher is Alicia Roesler. The artwork will be on exhibit in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol, along with the winning artwork from other congressional districts for the next year.
I'll say it right off the bat, the Class of 2020 graduation looks different than those of the past – that's no secret. Graduating amid a pandemic shouldn't make your day any less special, though. A graduation day is still something to celebrate and all of South Dakota knows our 2020 graduates worked hard to get to where they are.
Mother's Day will look differently this year. Families will have their Sunday brunch at home and our kids won't be bringing back handmade crafts orchestrated by their gracious teachers who have saved many a dad throughout the years. Friendly reminder dads – Mother's Day is a few days out.
