BIG Update

The Working Families Tax Cuts, which I voted for, delivered a historic $50 billion investment to strengthen rural health care via the Rural Health Transformation Program. This is a major commitment to support the rural health workforce, modernize technology, and improve efficiency for the community hospitals and clinics that serve families across South Dakota.

I recently toured Monument Health Spearfish Hospital, which just completed its phase‑one expansion and renovation. During my visit, we discussed the importance of ensuring every community has access to high‑quality care close to home, even in rural areas.

BIG Idea

The Children’s Home Society (CHS) is doing remarkable work to support children and families across South Dakota. During my visit to their new facility in Rapid City, I saw firsthand how their team is expanding services and meeting families where they are. From first‑time parent support to foster care and adoption services, CHS is helping build the strong, stable foundation every child deserves.

Their work doesn’t stop there. CHS provides critical resources like domestic violence support and shelter, mental health care, and child advocacy. These services are often a lifeline for families in crisis. CHS’s work strengthens entire communities, especially in moments when families need help the most.

I’m grateful for the dedication of the CHS staff and I’m proud of the impact they’re making for children and families throughout South Dakota.

BIG News

Tax filing season is underway, so don’t forget to check if you qualify for tax credits that were expanded in the Working Families Tax Cuts. For example, the Child Tax Credit has been increased from $2,000 to $2,200 per child and will be adjusted for inflation annually.

Families can also claim up to 50% (previously 35%) of their childcare expenses through the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit. Additionally, the Adoption Tax Credit now provides up to $17,280 per child for qualified adoption expenses. Up to $5,000 of this credit is now refundable, helping families along their journey of completing their family.

Working families are the heartbeat of America. I remain committed to supporting them as they balance raising children and earning a living.
