Johnson Reintroduces Bill to Protect and Preserve Mount Rushmore

January 17, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) re-introduced the Mount Rushmore Protection Act to protect one of America’s most identifiable monuments.

“Our nation’s history is not without its flaws, but there is no doubt the faces on Mount Rushmore represent democracy, freedom, and the great American experiment,” said Johnson. “Removing or changing Mount Rushmore will not change the past and will not move us forward as a country. We must protect Mount Rushmore for generations to come.”

The Mount Rushmore Protection Act prohibits the use of federal funds to alter, change, destroy, or remove the likeness, the name of, or any of the faces on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

The Mount Rushmore Protection Act is cosponsored by Reps. Michael Guest (R-MS), Alex Mooney (R-WV), Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), Jim Banks (R-IN), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Chris Stewart (R-UT), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen (R-American Samoa).
