Johnson Applauds Establishment of NAIV Congressional Charter
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) shared support for the establishment of the National American Indian Veterans (NAIV) Congressional Charter.
“NAIV has been operating out of South Dakota for years without Congressional recognition,” said Johnson. “There are more than 150,000 Native veterans in the United States, and I am very grateful for their service. Getting this Congressional Charter finalized ensures they receive the recognition they deserve. Senator Rounds’ leadership on this legislation was vital to its passage.”
Johnson introduced legislation to create a congressional charter for the National American Indian Veterans in 2022 and 2023. U.S. Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) led identical legislation in the U.S. Senate. The NAIV Congressional Charter was signed into law in December 2023.
