Rep. Johnson visits local wellness organizations in Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rep. Johnson was in Rapid City Monday afternoon, as part of a trip to West River.
The congressman kicked off his trip by visiting some of the local organizations focused on helping residents with mental health difficulties. He started at the Crisis Care Center, which is currently waiting for construction to finish on a new building.
From there, Johnson visited the Cornerstone Rescue Mission where he gained a first-hand perspective on how the facility helps residents working to get back on their feet.
Coming from an economically-challenged family, Rep. Johnson feels it is important to highlight their contributions to the community.
“You know I’m 30 or 40 years away from those experiences, but I think it’s important for me to understand how are places like the Cornerstone Mission helping people build better lives,” he said. “And there are ways that Congress can help with that.”
Johnson will continue his West River visit Tuesday with another stop in Rapid City before heading to Spearfish.
