Dusty Johnson helps pass act tightening restrictions on undocumented voting

July 12, 2024

You’ve been hearing it all year, 2024 is an election year, and with that comes campaigning, voter anxiety, and election safety issues.

Representative Dusty Johnson has been an avid proponent for election safety, heavily pushing for better restrictions when it comes to undocumented people being allowed to vote in elections.

He has previously voiced his frustrations with liberal cities such as San Francisco and New York for allowing undocumented people to vote in general elections.

Wednesday, Johnson voted to make American elections more secure by passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act also known as SAVE Act, which makes it tougher than ever for non-citizens to vote in federal elections.

”The problem is the law right now says its states cannot verify citizenship before they let people register to vote, which is an absurd system, and it is ripe for abuse. That’s why it’s so important that a bill I strongly supported was passed earlier this week that makes it clear that states do have the ability to go out and check that citizenship before they register somebody to vote,” Johnson said.

Johnson wanted to clarify that it is already prohibited for an undocumented person to vote in a federal election, and that he is only trying to keep America’s privilege of voting sacred.
