Summer is here and recent high school graduates often travel, find employment, and prepare for higher education. Some will head to vocational schools, community colleges, or four-year universities. Others, however, accept the bend ahead on the road less traveled at one of five U.S. service academies.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) announced nine South Dakotans will be attending the United States service academies. They will begin their military training at their respective schools in June. Johnson nominated each of these students in December 2025, and they recently accepted their appointment offers.
