Johnson Continues to Support Pro-Life Policies

May 11, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) cosponsored several pro-life policies in the U.S. House.

Johnson joined over 70 colleagues to cosponsor the Heartbeat Protection Actintroduced by U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA). The Heartbeat Protection Act prohibits abortion in cases where a fetal heartbeat is detectable and would prohibit abortion without a heartbeat check.

Johnson has also cosponsored U.S. Rep. Chris Smith’s (R-N.J.) legislation, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This bill will protect unborn children from abortion by 15 weeks’ gestation, with exceptions in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother.

Additionally, Johnson signed onto an amicus brief regarding Kerr v. Planned Parenthood. The brief supports South Carolina’s determination that Planned Parenthood does not qualify to receive Medicaid funding.

“I believe in the sanctity of life and have been a strong pro-life advocate during my tenure in Congress. One of my first actions this Congress was to cosponsor the Life at Conception Act. Life begins at conception, and even the tiniest of humans deserve the right to life guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution,” said Johnson.
