Thune, Johnson greet South Dakota veterans in DC

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Rep. Dusty Johnson met with veterans from South Dakota who were part of an honor flight to Washington, DC.

Both Johnson and Thune spoke on why it was important to meet with the veterans.

“Veterans in South Dakota and across the country are the best of the best and we owe them an incredible debt of gratitude. So it’s basically to come down and say thank you for your service, and to welcome them to this place that honors them and their service with all these memorials,” said Majority Leader Thune.

Johnson also touched on meeting with the veterans.

“The politicians always think they’re real busy. But when you look at what these men and women were willing to give up to serve their country, I think it puts everything in perspective. And all of the fighting with politicians will still be there when I get back to the office, but it’s really important I come here to say thank you.”

Honor Flights provide veterans with no cost transportation to Washington, DC to see memorials of the wars they fought in. The flights are conduced by non profit organizations.
